The City of Olathe manages, maintains and repairs more than 1,300 lane miles of street pavement, and the associated curbs and sidewalks in the city.
The City prioritizes projects annually to maintain a pavement condition index or at least 70. Pavement preservation strategies include crack sealing, microsurfacing, mill and overlay, and complete reconstruction. Funding for preservation projects comes from the Capital Improvement Plan, street maintenance sales tax collections and additional funding opportunities like grants.
A 3/8-cent Street Maintenance Sales Tax is the primary funding source of Olathe's street maintenance efforts. To learn more about the Street Maintenance Sales Tax and to view the annual report, visit the Street Maintenance Sales Tax Finance Oversight Committee webpage.
Along with street preservation projects, the City utilizes street sweeping to extend the useful life of roadways. Street sweeping removes debris, chemicals and yard waste from city streets to prevent flooding and keep our waterways clean and safe.
