The Neighborhood Traffic Safety Program (NTSP) is designed to resolve traffic concerns in Olathe neighborhoods.
Report concerns:
- Vehicular speeding problems, stop sign violations, etc:
- Submit a request for NTSP at OlatheConnect
- Contact the Neighborhood Traffic Safety Hotline at 913-971-5081
- Contact the traffic engineer at 913-971-9045
- Illegal parking concerns can be reported online at OlatheConnect.
- Incidents that are actively occurring:
- Contact police dispatch immediately at 913-782-0720 or 911 if the situation is an emergency.
When concerns are recommended for the program:
- The area is evaluated for proper signage.
- A traffic study is conducted to determine the context of the problem.
- Optional resources are deployed as recommended:
- Community Education:
- Radar trailer to notify motorists of their vehicular speed.
- Neighborhood and area high school newsletters
- Yard Sign Program
- Web-Site, Government Access Channel
- Radar Loan Program
- Enforcement:
- Assigned enforcement by the Police Traffic Unit
- Scheduled return enforcement
- Random enforcement
- Engineering:
- Review area for atypical circumstances, Implement "traditional" approaches first,
- Public meetings for geometric street modifications
- Traffic calming methods.
- Community Education:
A post traffic study is performed to determine the impact of actions.
If problems persist in areas that do not qualify for geometric modifications, "Neighborhood Traffic Enforcement Zones" may be established with permanently placed signs advising drivers of increased fines for speeding.
The NTSP program has been adopted by the Olathe City Council in an effort to achieve neighborhood safety and increase the quality of life in Olathe.
