• All items must be placed within 8 feet of the curb before 7 a.m. on the day of collection.
• Do not set bulk items at the curb prior to 5 p.m. the day before your scheduled bulk pick up.
• Do not place bulk waste items on or near utilities, power poles, or under trees. Items should not block sidewalks, traffic, or gutters.
• Yard waste items, such as brush or limbs, must be placed in a separate pile to distinguish them from other bulky items. Limbs can not exceed 15 feet in length and 2 feet in diameter.
• The city does not pick up containers purchased at local retailers or “bagsters”.
• The city does not accept rock, dirt, concrete, bricks, asphalt, or household hazardous waste items.
• All items placed at the curb will be collected with the understanding that everything is disposable.
• Bulk items are picked up mechanically with equipment designed for big furniture and appliances.
• The city is not responsible for damage to property including yard, landscaping, trees, or driveways as a result of bulk pickup.

Household items, construction debris or brush pick-up is $25 per 15 minutes of loading time with a $25 minimum. This fee increases after 4 pick-ups, and again after 8 pick-ups, as follows:

• 1st-4th pick-ups per year - $25 per 15 minutes of loading time
• 5th-8th pick-ups per year - $55 per 15 minutes of loading time
• 9+ pick-ups per year - $80 per 15 minutes of loading time

Bulk pick-ups scheduled outside the normal trash day are subject to special fees as follows:

• 1st-4th pick-ups per year - $55 + $25 per 15 minutes of loading time
• 5th-8th pick-ups per year - $80 + $55 per 15 minutes of loading time
• 9+ pick-ups per year - $110 + $80 per 15 minutes of loading time

In addition to the minimum loading fee, additional fees may be charged. 

• Automobile tires are $5 per tire with a $10 minimum.
• Semi-truck tires are $10 each. 
• Refrigerated appliances (refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners, and appliances with Freon) pick-up is $35 per appliance.
• Pick-ups scheduled outside the regular scheduled trash collection day will be charged an additional flat rate of $55 plus $25 per 15 minutes loading time.
• Additional fees may apply for yard waste over 20 cubic yards to account for travel time to the Olathe Community Recycling Center between loads.

Business items, construction debris or brush pick-up is $55 for the first 15 minutes of load time, and $30 for each additional 15 minutes.

• Pick-ups scheduled outside the regular scheduled trash collection day will be charged an additional flat rate of $50.
• Must be a City of Olathe trash customer to utilize bulk item pick-up services.

Tipping Fees

Residential loads cannot be transported in a commercial vehicle or by a hired hauler. Olathe residents dropping off material from a business will be charged the non-residential/commercial rate.

Miscellaneous Disposal Fees

• Follow directions from signs, signals, and facility personnel in all areas of the Transfer Station.
• Safety vests and hard hats are required for all customers upon entering the facility. Vests are available for purchase for $10 (subject to increase) at the scale house. Hard hats can also be borrowed from the scale house.
• Unload only in the designated area or container.
• Only vehicles with automated unloading/dumping capability are directed to the tipping floor.
  • Follow directions of the tipping floor operator.
  • Maintain at least five feet distance from other vehicles.
  • Do not dump directly into the pit.
• Place all waste materials into the proper on-site containers.
• Be mindful of debris around the drop-off site.
• Do not stand on the retaining walls.
• Keep children inside vehicle.
• Prevent littering by securing load materials.

The following items are not accepted at the Transfer Station:

• Barrels
• Hazardous wastes
• Liquids
• Medical or infectious wastes
• Oils
• Paints
• Tractor tires
• Waste sludges
• Yard wastes

Dump-vehicles and dump-trailers containing primarily construction and demolition materials are prohibited from dumping inside the building. However, unloading these materials by hand is permitted.

Combining C&D materials with municipal solid waste (regular trash) is inefficient and unsustainable. Diverting C&D waste from regular landfills by adopting responsible disposal practices is essential for:

• conserving resources
• reducing environmental impact
• promoting a more sustainable waste management system.
