Household Hazardous Waste Facility

The City of Olathe operates a year-round program for Johnson County residents to safely dispose of Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) at no charge. The Olathe HHW Facility offers weekday appointments and a monthly drop-off event where no appointment is necessary.

HHW is any unwanted household chemical that cannot safely be discarded in the trash or down the drain because it contains ingredients that are toxic, flammable, reactive, or corrosive.

Proper disposal prevents HHW from entering the environment, soil, groundwater and streams, or causing harm to people and animals.

The Olathe HHW facility is for Johnson County residents only. Business waste is not accepted.

Product Re-Use Store

Products collected through the Household Hazardous Waste Facility are offered for ReUse, free of charge Johnson County residents and not-for-profit organizations, to reduce hazardous waste that enters landfills and reduce hazardous waste disposal fees.

Typical products available for re-use include household cleaners, home improvement products like paints and varnishes, and automotive products. Visit the re-use store for daily availability of products. Products are available on a first-come, first-served basis and are cannot be placed on hold.

Those who utilize the ReUse store agree that products will be used for their original intended purpose (per State of Kansas Regulations, K.A.R. 28-29-1102 (a)(2)(A)) and in accordance with the manufacturer's warranty. Users also agree to dispose of products properly and are under the sole responsibility to substantiate the quality, expiration date and fitness for use. Products cannot be used for resale.
