Demolition Permit Processes

Interior, Non-Structural Demolition

  • Provide a description of the scope of work.  A floor plan is preferred.
  • Submit a letter of consent for demolition from the property owner.
  • Demolition Permit Fees are paid with the application. Checks are payable to the City of Olathe.

  • These permits require a 5-day plan review for residential and a 15-day plan review for commercial.
  • Submit a letter of consent for demolition from the property owner.
  • Submit a site plan showing the location of the pool, structure or septic system to be demolished, and where utility lines will be capped.
  • Demolition Permit Fees are paid with the application. Checks are payable to the City of Olathe.
  • Note the following:
    • In-ground structures will have their bottoms broken, walls pushed in, and receive at least 24" of soil coverage.
    • All excavations will be filled to existing grade.
    • A four foot fence will be provided around any open foundation or excavation until it is filled to existing grade.
    • All debris will be cleared to return the site to a safe and sanitary condition within 30 days.
    • The site is to be left in a mowable condition with no ponding of water.
    • Tree removal is not granted under this permit.
    • Erosion and sediment control measures will be put in place as needed. These measures will remain in place until vegetation has been established.

  • Demolition Permit Fees are paid with the application. Checks are payable to the City of Olathe.
  • Note the following:
    • Submit a letter of consent for demolition from the property owner.
    • Provide a legal description of the property site.
    • Submit a site plan, in electronic media such as PDF format on a CD or flash drive, showing the location of the building to be demolished and where utilities will be capped.
    • Provide communication by letter, verbal, or electronic from all utility providers verifying that all utilities such as gas, electric, water and sewer have been disconnected.
  • Note the following:
    • In-ground structures will have their bottoms broken, walls pushed in, and receive at least 24" of soil coverage.
    • All excavations will be filled to existing grade.

  • Commercial demolition needs a certificate of commercial general liability insurance.
  • Commercial demolition needs a copy of notice to the Kansas Department of Health and Environment.
  • Commercial demolition needs a hazardous materials inspection report.
