The Hostage/Crisis Negotiation Team (HCNT) can respond to a wide range of situations such as hostage incidents, barricaded subjects, persons in the midst of emotional crisis, or persons who are mentally ill and needing intervention. 

All HCNT members receive extensive training in hostage/crisis negotiations.

HCNT Objectives:

  • Preserve life
  • Defuse volatile situations by negotiation
  • Ensure the safety of everyone involved

The Olathe Police Department (OPD) is a member of the Kansas Association of Hostage Negotiators (KAHN).

OPD team members have served in leadership and guest-speaker roles for the KAHN.
