The City of Olathe announced plans for Pioneer Park, a new neighborhood park, near the intersection of College Blvd. and Woodland Rd.

Construction will begin on the 16.7-acre park in the fall of 2024 and will include a small shelter, pond, walking trails, a small playground, a parking lot and natural areas. The property will also include the brand new Fire Station 9 on the southwest corner.

“The City is incredibly grateful to the Hoff family for donating this land that has been such an integral part of Olathe’s rich history. We’re excited to develop the land into Pioneer Park that will be enjoyed by families for generations to come,” said Mike Sirna, Quality of Life Director for the City of Olathe.

The land for the park was donated to the city in 2019 by the Hoff family, who has a long history in Olathe. The Hoff family has farmed this land since before the Civil War. Thomas Hoff, a fifth generation of Hoff farmers in Olathe, is a graduate of Olathe High School and built a home on the farmland in the late 1970s.

In May of 2010 the Hoff family opened Stone Pillar Vineyard and Winery so they could continue to keep the farm productive, even as the neighboring land was being developed. To this day, this is one of Kansas’ oldest family farms on record.

“We’re proud to donate this park to the City of Olathe in honor of Tom’s grandfather George Edward Hoff. He loved this farm and would be thrilled that a part of his land is becoming an Olathe park for all residents to enjoy,” said Tom and Marcie Hoff.

Pioneer Park is expected to be completed in the summer of 2025 and will be Olathe’s 28th neighborhood park.
