Park Ranger Program 

City of Olathe Park Rangers inspire the responsible use, recreational enjoyment, and community connection of Olathe's parks and public lands.

Rangers are authorized at more than 40 park and trail locations and are responsible for enforcing various ordinances, park safety, security, community outreach, and supporting special events occurring in parks.

Bicycle Safety

Cyclists should always wear a helmet, be predictable, be seen, and stay alert when riding.

Share the Road

  • Obey traffic signs and signals
  • Follow lane markings
  • Never ride against traffic
  • Use lights at night
  • Use hand signals
  • Ride on the right
  • pass on the left, never the right

Share the Trails

  • Yield to pedestrians
  • Signal while passing
  • Be alert of trail conditions
  • Use caution at intersections
  • Control pets
  • Alert pedestrians or slower cyclists of your presence
  • Pedestrians should acknowledge then step to the right

Safe Walking & Jogging Tips

  • Be aware of your surroundings
  • Lock your vehicle and walk confidently after parking your vehicle
  • Don't leave viewable valuables such as purses, wallets, or cell phones inside your vehicle
  • Carry a cell phone in case of an emergency
  • If approached by a stranger, don't allow yourself to be distracted; reply from a distance and keep responses to questions brief and business-like
  • In case of trouble, yell "Fire" to attract attention
