In order to form the Vision, Values, and Mission, 80 top leaders from the City of Olathe came together to strategize about the organization.

After much discussion, the group decided on, “Setting the Standard for Excellence in Public Service.” This statement gave the City of Olathe a great benchmark for continuous improvement.

The group started looking at the values that were important to the City and decided on two sets:

  • The individual values are those that the City looks for when hiring people. The City expects that hiring processes will reflect the values of accountability, respect, commitment, initiative, and integrity.
  • The City's organizational values of communication, customer service, teamwork, learning, and leadership through service are the values that used everyday to effectively serve the public and co-workers everyday.

By embracing these core values, employees of the City of Olathe are committed to serving the community with respect, accountability, initiative, and integrity.
