Outdoor warning sirens are not designed to alert people who are indoors when severe weather approaches.
All-hazards radios save lives by alerting people indoors with a special alarm tone in a life-threatening situation.
- These radios provide constant, useful and up-to-date weather information.
- They can also alert people to other types of emergencies such as chemical spills and biological hazards.
- The hearing and visually impaired can connect weather radios to other attention-getting devices such as strobe lights, pagers, bed-shakers, personal computers and text printers.
Project Community Alert (PCA)
The weather radios offered through Project Community Alert (PCA) use technology that allows you to program your radio to sound warnings for specific counties. Visit the National Weather Service site for programming codes for your area.
PCA is a community-wide effort to distribute weather alert radios. The Metropolitan Emergency Managers Committee (MEMC) has partnered with Price Chopper grocery stores to sell the radios at a special price of $29.95.
