The Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Program provides annual grants on a formula basis to states, cities, and counties to develop viable urban communities by providing decent housing and a suitable living environment, and by expanding economic opportunities, principally for low- and moderate-income persons.

The City of Olathe receives Community Development Block Grant funding through a Cooperative Agreement with Johnson County. Through this cooperative agreement, Olathe uses the same application materials and process for award as the County.

Application and program administration materials are available on the Johnson County Community Development website. Typically, the application period of annual CDBG begins in March or April of each year.

Olathe received a special allocation of CDBG funding to prevent, prepare for, and respond to the coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19).  This allocation was authorized by the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act, Public Law 116-136 signed into law by President Trump on March 27, 2020 in response to the growing effects of this historic public health crisis.
