As Deputy City Manager, Susan is responsible for the day to day operations of the four areas of Olathe’s 2040 Strategic Plan which are Economy, Exceptional Services, Infrastructure and Quality of Life. Susan has served in Olathe since 1989. Olathe is a suburb of the Kansas City Metropolitan area and has a population of 150,000. Olathe has been recognized for its work in community engagement, innovation, and organizational development.
Susan earned a bachelor’s degree from Ohio Wesleyan University and a master’s degree in public administration from the University of Kansas. Susan is an International City County Management Association (ICMA) credentialed manager. In 2006 Susan was awarded the Assistant Excellence in Leadership Award in honor of Buford Watson Jr. by the International City County Management Association. In 2014 Sherman received the ICMA Career Development Award in Memory of L.P. Cookingham. In 2019 Susan was awarded the Kansas Association of City Manager’s Buford Watson Excellence in Public Management Award and in 2022 was named the Citizen of the Year by the Olathe Chamber of Commerce.
Susan co-chaired the ICMA Task Force on Leadership and served as the ICMA Mountain Plains Regional Vice President for the ICMA Executive Board 2014-2017. Susan also serves locally on the Boys and Girls Club Advisory Board, and is past president of the Santa Fe Trail Rotary Club.
Susan and Fred live in Olathe Kansas, and have two grown children.
