Mayor John Bacon is in his ninth term on the Olathe City Council. He's been Mayor since August 2020, filling the seat left after the passing of Mayor Michael Copeland.

  • John was first elected to the Olathe City Council in April 1995, to represent Ward 3. 
  • In April 2001, he was appointed to fill the at-large seat vacated by Mayor Copeland and was re-elected in 2003, 2007, 2011, 2015, and again in 2019.
  • He was appointed Mayor Pro Tem in January 2020.

John is a graduate of MidAmerica Nazarene University. He is a shareholder in Bacon & Associates CPA with his wife Melanie. They have three children and five grandchildren.
