Thank you for your interest in Teen Council! The City of Olathe is proud to offer this opportunity to resident high schoolers to help them learn about how to get engaged in their local government and community. Teen Council is a youth-led organization with multiple opportunities for leadership. We’re eager to meet and help grow Olathe’s next generation of leaders!
Teen Council meets twice a month and holds activities and community service activities as scheduled. Member requirements include:
- Live within Olathe city limits
- Attend a majority of Teen Council meetings and events
- Attend at least two Olathe City Council meetings, including but not limited to the second meetings in October and April for Teen Council recognition
- Attend at least four community service activities and complete at least 20 hours of community service that will be organized by the Teen Council.
To apply for a position on the Olathe Teen Council, complete the information below and attach the three supplementary items:
1) Two reference letters (from teacher, principal, activities director, work supervisor, or volunteer leader/director)
2) A short essay (no more than 250 words) answering one of the two following questions:
- How would you like to see Teen Council evolve into a stronger youth organization within the community?
- How do you see yourself impacting the community through your participation in Teen Council?
All application and supplementary materials must be submitted by 5 p.m., Monday, July 1, 2024.
