As part of the City of Olathe’s Hispanic Heritage Month celebration, local teens and law enforcement officers are teaming up for the Copa Azul “Blue Cup,” a round-robin soccer tournament on Saturday, Sept. 29 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Teens from the Olathe School District’s Latino Leadership Club will join officers from the Johnson County Sheriff’s Department, Olathe Police Department and the Kansas City, KS, Police Department to compete in a round of soccer scrimmages. Many of the officers are members of the National Latino Peace Officers Association.
In addition to the soccer matches, other activities include a display of low-rider bicycles built by members of the school district’s Latino Leadership Club, a Latin-American flag parade, games such as soccer darts and food available for purchase from local food trucks.
The event is free to attend and will be held at Olathe North High School (600 E. Prairie St.). Visit OlatheKS.org/HispanicHeritageMonth for more information.
