Family Fun Nights - 1860s Fireworks

Enjoy 19th century fireworks at the historic site!

FireworksThanks to support from the Mahaffie Foundation, this event is FREE to attend!

Mahaffie staff is monitoring weather. Please be aware the timing of activities may change due to potential showers moving through. Please monitor this entry and our Facebook page for up to date times. Thank you for understanding. 

Stagecoach rides are $3/person, you must be in line by 8:30 p.m. to receive a ride. 

Parking is available at the Heritage Center and at the Olathe Community Center. The Knights of Columbus will be in the lots to direct traffic.

We're open from 6 to 10 p.m. The theme this week is 1860s Fireworks. *You must be on the grounds to be able to view the fireworks display.*

  • Olathe Civic Band performs at about 7:30 p.m. 
  • Patriotic music begins about 9:15 p.m. 
  • Fireworks begin about 9:30 p.m.
  • Picnics encouraged!
  • Pie, ice cream, root beer sales in the back yard of the farmhouse.
  • 1860s living history such as:
    • visiting the Mahaffie house,
    • Agricultural Heritage Livestock Barn
    • cookstove demonstrations
    • Making an 'S' Hook in the blacksmith shop, ages 8 & up, $4/hook
  • Tina's Truck is the food vendor, cash and cards accepted but not Mahaffie activity tickets. 

You are welcome to bring lawn chairs, blankets and a picnic. Please leave pets at home.

*Activities and schedule are subject to change.

*Purchase activity tickets in the Heritage Center using cash, check or credit card. Activity tickets are non-refundable but can be used for other Thursday night activities. Each activity ticket is $1. Cash is also accepted at activity stations requiring fees.
