  • Introduction: Help finalize the vision for the Olathe Downtown Active Transportation Plan!

The City of Olathe and Mid America Regional Council (MARC) are developing the Olathe Downtown Active Transportation Plan, which includes recommendations for pedestrian and bicyclists to promote healthy lifestyles and increased safety, comfort, and efficiency downtown. The goal is to create a livable environment with regional connections for all ages and lifestyles within the downtown.

The City will hold the final open house on Monday, Oct. 7, from 4 to 6:30 p.m. at Olathe City Hall (100 E Santa Fe St.) in City of Governors Room on the first floor. This will be an informal, interactive process to unveil the final concepts and to have the public share their feedback. Public participation is encouraged and will help finalize the vision for the Olathe Downtown Active Transportation Plan.

The Olathe Downtown Active Transportation Plan process will help refine the specifics of how the transportation network in the downtown area can meet the needs of all users and provide connected opportunities for bicycle and pedestrian users to get to and travel within downtown.

Physical inactivity is a major contributor to the steady rise in rates of obesity, diabetes, heart disease, stroke, and other chronic health conditions. By designing communities to encourage active transportation with safe and welcoming walking and biking infrastructure, we can help reduce the negative health impacts that come with a car dependent culture.

There is no set agenda, and attendees can come and go as they please. Visit EnvisionOlathe.com for more information about the project.
