Christmas Open House

Enjoy the holiday decorations of the Heritage Center and experience 1860s Living History on the historic Mahaffie grounds. FREE admission! (a small fee applies to some activities) 

Heritage Center activities:

  • 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.: Music by the Shady Grove String Band, they will play familiar favorites and feel free to sing along!
  • 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Visit Santa! You are welcome to take pictures in front of the limestone fireplace. One printed picture available for $5 or two for $7. 
  • 1 p.m. to 2 p.m.: Enjoy carols from the Carolers of Note singers
  • 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.: Make your own graham cracker gingerbread house ($4/house), make an ornament, purchase your unique Christmas gifts from the Mahaffie Market or a hand made Santa from Glinda Thoms.

Mahaffie grounds activities:

  • 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.:  Visit the Mahaffie house, see what is cooking on the cookstove, and string popcorn and cranberries. 
  • 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.:  Ride the stagecoach ($3/person ages 3 & up), visit the blacksmith and Agricultural Heritage Livestock Barn
  • 11 a.m.:  See a horse powered corn grinding demonstration
  •  2 p.m.:  See a horse powered wheat threshing demonstration
  •  2 p.m. to 3 p.m.:  Enjoy carols from the Carolers of Note singers
